Project Brief

The brief for this project was to create an eye-catching poster design using a given letter to promote the Ascenders 2024 design showcase. The poster was designed with the context of being in a room of many other Ascenders posters showcasing letters and symbols.

Problem

The problem was coming up with a way to uniquely promote the Ascenders event with a poster with the letter 'U' as the main design element.

Solution

The solution was experimenting with many textures and page layouts to find a design solution that would resonate with young designers and get them to look closely at the content. The halftone layering on the 'U' was achieved with digital manipulation and was chosen because 'The Type Directors Club Ascenders' is an event for designers that showcases a lot of print projects, so the halftone effect on this poster represents the print portion of the Ascenders event. The slight hints of red and the tilted grid add just enough visual interest to break itself away from the halftone pattern.
